Laikmetīgās mākslas galerijas "West" izstādes 2PK bunkurā Hāgā
Doris Ebner, West, Hague/The Netherlands
The Bunker - extraordinary exhibition space by Galerie West. West, since 2007 located in the center of The Hague, will occupy a World War II bunker in The Hague's Westbroekpark with contemporary art. In a series of exhibitions featuring artists from The Netherlands and from abroad, different approaches chosen by artists and filmmakers outside their familiar (white cube) environment will be presented at this new, exciting location.

The Bunker, Westbroekpark, Den Haag

The bunker is an inhospitable atypical location for art - moist, dark and impenetrable - and forces the artists to create new work. On invitation by West they will present themselves in five editions.

The bunker, with its explicit structural features, in the course of time changed its function. The building is now unwieldy and forms as a relic from World War II a part of Dutch (park) landscape. In the case of the bunker in Westbroekpark, the building has been turned into an obscure storage and party location - and this summer becomes an experimental exhibition space.

For Bunker #02 Lotte Geeven will place a new space in the historic space. The art of Ward Denys takes place between past and future, between inside and outside, between functional and dysfunctional. In Bunker #03 his installation work will be combined with an international video program curated by Denis Isaia. Bunker #04 shows paintings by Marielle Buitendijk. They are regarding the material/Regarding the material the paintings are in conflict with the location but will benefit from the darkness and historical context. Bunker #05 is a collaboration of Harold de Bree and Marcel van Eeden. De Bree is developing a sound installation and will not touch the original space. His installation will be combined with drawings by Van Eeden. The Bunker is located in the Westbroekpark between the Rose Garden and tearoom - boat rental Waterkant at/in The Hague / Scheveningen. It is opened/open daily from May 16 till September 26 2010 with free admission from 10 to 21 hours.
